Dalai Lama Trek Northern India

Dalai Lama Trek Northern India

Summary

Starting with a free day to discover Delhi, including the 17th Century Red Fort, we'll take an exciting sleeper train to Pathankot and lace up our hiking boots in Dharamsala, the spiritual home of the Dalai Lama.

We'll wake amidst the mountains for yoga and meditation, hike through pine and rhododendron forests and cross suspension bridges over fresh-water streams.

Making friends with the locals as we go, we'll taste freshly brewed Indian Chai Masala, encounter friendly Gaddi Tribe villages and breathe in the tranquility of life in the mountains.

We'll finish this once-in-a-lifetime adventure with a sleeper train to Agra to discover the world-famous Taj Mahal!

Distances are moderate but as you would expect in the hills of Northern India there are some challenging elevations. You will reach a maximum of 3,550 m above sea level which can cause altitude sickness for some people. For comparison, Mt. Kili summit is 5,895 m above sea level. Terrain will be varied but moderate as will temperatures, which are cool on some days but the trek will keep you warm!
